'Lara Schnitger's sculptures combine "feminine" exterior materials with "masculine" principles of engineering to explore broader issues of gender and sexuality. Made of panels of fabric joined and stretched over complex wooden armatures, these oversized tensile structures seem at times like faceless monsters caught in a moment of suspended animation. Their individual characters are articulated through a range of materials that function as skin - such as plaid pyjamas, tourist t-shirt, dishrags, sheer shell-coloured knits, and stretchy black lace.'
