Corner, 2021-22
oil on canvas
67.5 x 90 cm
Often, everyday subjects from Leo Arnold’s personal environment inhabit his paintings. The paintings are the outcome of his efforts to grasp at something, his trying to pin it down and make sense of his everyday surroundings and experiences. This work depicts a corner in Arnold’s studio with a floating patch of what could be light reflected onto the floor. As one can see revisions through the white of the floor, the work encapsulates Arnold's receptive working method, through which he returns to a painting time and again.
