Marijke van Warmerdam’s 35mm film “Light” (2010) shows a window with shutters blocking the daylight. A hand plays with the shutters, enabling beams of light pouring in. Familiar, daily exercises like taking a shower (like in her work "Douche") or closing the shutters ("Light"). These ordinary everyday life actions, observations of ordinary things are usually the starting point for Marijke van Warmerdam, and usually the medium she uses, a lot of the time film, is emphasizing the subject and giving it an extra layer. In the way she edits the film, also in the case of "Light", she is emphasizing the rhythm of the image.
