Una Gente Sombreada (The shaded people) No.01, 2011
pencil on Fabriano paper
70 x 100 cm
Dick Verdult's work encompasses film, performance, graphics, drawing, sculptures and ceramics, radioshows, text and music, as well as several art groups he founded, such as the IBW (Instituut voor Betaalbare Waanzin / Institute for Affordable Lunacy) and Festicumex - a festival for a non-existent music genre. As a visual artist and musician in the experimental Cumbia Lunaticas and Experimentales music he has acquired a cult status, well known by the name of Dick El Demasiado, especially in South America, Russia and Japan. His work is topical and often politically charged, and Verdult is a master in letting things derail and allowing imperfections. On view are his Gente Sombreada (Shaded people) works, large and brutal drawings that were created with rough hatching spreading in every direction.
