Ed van der Elsken

This photo was published in Ed van der Elsken's book ‘Amsterdam! Old photos 1947-1970’ (1979). Ed van der Elsken dove into his archive to compile a book of his best black and white photos of Amsterdam. With the exception of the period between 1950-1954, he lived in Amsterdam, and often worked in the area around his house in the Koningsstraat, adjacent to the Nieuwmarkt, Zeedijk and the Waterloo square. The photobook includes attractive images of the fifties, images of the riots in the sixties, many portraits of people, especially young people, but also architecture photography and an account of the demise of the historical city center.
