This work is part of the documentation-based installation 'Proper', which was first exhibited in May 2013 at Vamiali's Gallery in Athens, Greece. In this particular piece, Pittas combines immaculate white marble with his trademark black characters. Together, these characters form a single word: 'forget'. Instead of making spectators forget, however, this verb might just as easily activate memories of his 2010 installation ‘Untitled (this is a historic opportunity for us)’ – in which he first used the quote ‘A place to remember to forget’. Rather than merely placing a stripped-down version of this phrase on the marble, Pittas allows it to follow the contours of the floor as well. As such, both marble and text become intricately linked to the space that they are in.
