In The Bakery the collaborative work 'The city of a 12 million suns' by the Dutch artists Jeroen Kooijmans (1967) and Roy Cerpac (1967) will be shown. Kooijmans and Cerpac set out on a quest for the positive aspects and the beauty of an overpopulated city. Their collage-like video film (running time 25 minutes) captures the rhythm of the city of Tokyo; hectic images are followed by fragments of trivial, everyday actions and close-up shots of details like hands and shoes, exposing the moments of quietness within the hustle and bustle of the urban environment.
Jeroen Kooijmans (the winner of the NPS Culture Award 1998) and Roy Cerpac both graduated from the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 1995. Over the past few years they have collaborated on a variety of projects. 'The city of a 12 million suns' was commissioned originally by the architecture office MVRDV. Last year the film was shown at the architecture Biennial in Venice and at PS1 Centre for Contemporary Art in New York.
