The Bakery shows the 16mm film 'Handed Over' (2008), the result of a cooperation between David Maljkovic and Rosa Barba. After her training at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, Barba (Italy, 1972) followed the two-year Residency Program at Rijksacademie in Amsterdam, where she met Maljkovic. Solo exhibitions of her work were amongst others on show in Villa Romana in Florence and Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam.
For 'Handed Over' Barba and Maljkovic staged the development of a story. Back and forth they sent each other pictures and texts, both by e-mail and via a Super 8 camera, and continued where the other stopped. The process of developing the story plays a key role, and is just as important as the eventual story. The story does not have a beginning or an end. The pictures originate either from the artists themselves or from their own research, some have been created by the two of them together, whereas others were simply transferred. Barba in Stockholm and Maljkovic in Zagreb created thus together, and yet apart from each other, one operational work, which can be considered as the rendering of a deliberate fragile artistic collaboration. Jan St. Werner created the accompanying sound. The work will also be presented in an architectural setting, designed by Barba and Maljkovic. 'Handed Over' was earlier on display in Project Art Center, Dublin.
