Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin
Yael Bartana's videos and sound installations 'Tuning', 'Profile' & 'Tashlikh' are on view during the '4. Berliner Herbstsalon' at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin which will bring together a multitude of international artists in historical places of the city, presenting over three weeks of theater, art, shows and speech formats. As in previous autumn salons, international artists critically examine the ideas of nation, identity and affiliation. This year's edition is dedicated to these issues from a feminist-intersectional point of view.
Through her moving image and installation works, Yael Bartana explores how cultural and national identity is reinforced through rituals, ceremonies, and social practices. Though she sees her work as “in contact with politics,” she refuses to pass judgment or offer solutions to political conflicts. Instead, Bartana reveals political conditions and mechanisms, inviting her audience to be active viewers and participants.
