In collaboration with Holtkamp, Sarah van Sonsbeeck created an 'Amsterdam pavlova cake' (Amsterdamse schuimtaart) that is available at De Balie throughout the month of May. It is conceived of as a temporary monument in honour of the resistance hero and openly queer artist Willem Arondéus, who was executed 79 years ago for bombing the Amsterdam public registry office where records of Jewish Amsterdammers were kept. In his death cell he ordered an Amsterdam pavlova cake. The shape of the cake, a pink triangle, was used by the Nazi regime to mark queer people but was later turned into a symbol of strength and pride by the queer movement.
