Roger Hiorns has been shortlisted as one of the artists to design a major permanent public art piece for the West Cumbria coastline in north-west England. In partnership with Tom Emerson of 6a architects, Hiorns proposed to transform a slag heap, a mound of industrial waste, at Millom on the River Duddon into a sculptural form. With holes drilled into it, the hope is that seeds will grow there, transforming the artwork. The working title is Millom Land Form and it will highlight how land art an be used to regenerate post-industrial landscapes. The proposals will be on view at the Beacon Museum from 10.09 and the winning proposal is due to be announced this winter.
