The exhibition What is the Proper Way to Display a Flag? at the Weserburg Museum focuses on current, international positions in order to reflect on the meaning, impact, and use of flags through contemporary art production. On view will be Bartana's work A Declaration (2006), which depicts a man rowing at sea and arriving at a rock, replacing the proudly waving Israeli flag with a young olive tree. As such, the work reflects on the effects of replacing one national symbol by another.
